Signs of aging are more likely to occur during two periods of rapid change during life. A study published in the journal “Nature Aging” identifies which ones, UNN reports.
Details
A new study, which tracked people aged 25 to 74, found that the two main waves of aging occur at 44 and 60.
The researchers studied data from 108 people who, among other things, donated blood every few months for several years. They also provided skin, feces, blood, nose, and mouth samples every few months for almost 7 years.
The researchers evaluated 135 different molecules (RNA, proteins, and metabolites) and microbiomes (bacteria, viruses that live in the participants' gut and skin).
Scientists found that the greatest transformation occurred at the age of 44, and then again at the age of 60.

In people aged 40, the group found changes in the number of molecules associated with alcohol, caffeine, and fat metabolism, among other things. In people over 60 years old, changes were observed in carbohydrate and caffeine metabolism, immune regulation, and kidney function, among other things.
Some of these changes are probably also related to age-related lifestyle or behavioral factors and are not caused by biological factors, said Michael Snyder, lead author of the study, in a press release.
