A large-scale forest fire is raging in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia and has already spread across more than 200 hectares. This is reported by Tagesschau, according to UNN.

The fire reportedly broke out in the Hürtgen Forest. According to the authorities, the affected area could grow to 300 hectares. For comparison: according to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture's forest-fire statistics, around 52 hectares were affected by fires in North Rhine-Westphalia throughout 2025.

The publication points out that the fire remains difficult to fight due to the large number of separate hotspots and shifting winds. According to fire service officials, the operation may last several days. More than 2,000 people have already been evacuated from the area. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
