As of August 1, 2026, the 423rd separate battalion of unmanned systems "Scythian Griffins" will be reorganized and scaled up to the level of a separate regiment of unmanned systems. The commander of the newly formed separate regiment remains the unchanged leader of the combat unit - Lieutenant Colonel Vitaly Hersak, reports UNN.
Thanks to the introduction of modern technologies and the constant increase in the combat effectiveness of UAV use, during 2024-2026, the "Scythian Griffins" went from a separate detachment of unmanned systems to a separate regiment of the 20th Army Corps of the operational command "South".
This is one of the most effective units in the area of responsibility of the OC "South" and among the unmanned systems units of the Command of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since the beginning of 2025, the battalion has been in the TOP-20 of the "Delta" rating and is the first in efficiency among units at the level of separate battalions. In less than two years of its existence, the "Scythian Griffins" have hit over 5,750 units of enemy manpower, 533 enemy vehicles, 222 artillery systems, 29 warehouses, 21 tanks, 320 enemy UAVs of various types, as well as almost 13,000 observation points and enemy deployment points.
The unit has its own engineering and design base, experimental production of ammunition and aircraft, workshops and training grounds, as well as experienced crews that operate all types of modern UAVs and use all available types of weapons. "On the occasion of the birthday of the new separate regiment, I want to send 'greetings' to those Russian military correspondents who have recently been publishing joyful fakes about the alleged destruction of our combat crews. Persistent attempts to harm the 'Scythian Griffins' are constantly taking place, but all of them are unsuccessful. We are not only alive and well, but also continue to grow," says the regiment commander V. Hersak.
