Ukraine is interested in cooperation with Japan and the company Mitsubishi, which is already engaged in licensed production of American-made Patriot missiles. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a conversation with journalists on July 9, reports UNN.
Details
According to the Head of State, Ukraine is aware of Mitsubishi's experience in producing Patriot missiles and considers it one of the strongest examples of deploying such production after obtaining an American license.
We know what the company Mitsubishi does. It demonstrates a very high level of Patriot missile production, and this is probably the strongest example today of how, after obtaining an American license, to deploy production of one's own anti-ballistic missiles
The President emphasized that Ukraine would be interested in the presence of Japanese specialists and the exchange of experience in this area.
We would like to see them in Ukraine. Absolutely, with pleasure. We would like an exchange of experience, but this depends on the desire of the Japanese side
Zelenskyy also stressed that official Kyiv highly appreciates Japan's technological potential and is ready for mutual cooperation.
We deeply respect Japan, its technologies, its development. We are ready to share our development, our technologies. And I am confident that in many areas we will have a common vision
Context
Earlier, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Ukraine received a positive decision on the license to produce Patriot after a meeting with US President Donald Trump. According to the Head of State, after the political agreement, the relevant teams, diplomats, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Defense must coordinate the technical details.
Patriot systems remain critically important for Ukraine amid regular Russian attacks using ballistic missiles. Kyiv has repeatedly called on partners to strengthen Ukrainian air defense and increase supplies of both the systems themselves and missiles for them.
