Ukrainian intelligence operations at sea are a security issue not only for Ukraine but also for neighboring countries, such as Moldova. This was stated in the documentary project "GUR. Battle for the Sea. All Roads Lead to Crimea", a representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Andriy Yusov said, according to UNN.
The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine states that the naval operations of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine have already gone down in the history of the Ukrainian people's struggle against Russian invaders.
The special operations to liberate Zmeinyi Island, the destruction of Russian Black Sea Fleet ships, and the landing in Crimea were tasks that seemed unrealistic, but in accomplishing them, Ukrainian intelligence officers demonstrated extraordinary professionalism, superhuman endurance, courage, and even creativity. And it was the success of the operations at sea that made it possible to completely liberate Odesa region from the occupiers and significantly reduce Russian attacks on peaceful cities of Ukraine from the sea.
"Last year was truly remarkable for Ukraine in terms of maritime advancement. Ukraine has largely pushed the enemy back, forced the aggressor's fleet to retreat and hide in the corners, to retreat from Crimea," Yusov said.
It is noted that he considers the liberation of Zmeinyi Island to be one of the most significant operations.
"This is a security issue not only for Ukraine, it is an additional security guarantee for Moldova, for example. This is the impossibility of conducting various kinds of provocations, landing operations (by Russia - ed.). It was a geopolitical event without exaggeration," Yusov emphasized.
He noted that hearing about new ideas and plans for Ukrainian intelligence operations, no one doubts that it can be done.
"The aggressor really clung to Zmeinyi Island to the last. But they suffered enormous losses, personnel, equipment, boats were destroyed... They did not have time to escape, taking everything they needed with them. The bookmakers and expensive equipment remained, all of which ended up with the Ukrainians," Yusov said.
