Details

The author of numerous bestsellers, who sold more than 90 million copies of her own books during her lifetime, died peacefully at her home on Sunday after a short illness.

Taylor Bradford has often been called the "grande dame of blockbusters". She achieved success back in 1979 when she published the book "Woman with a capital W". The book about the life of Emma Hart, who went from being a maid in rural Yorkshire to running a business empire, sold millions of copies.

This story was followed by many other successful books, and the author's works have been published in more than 40 languages in 90 countries. In her career, she has written a total of 40 novels, the most recent of which is The Wonder of It All, published last year.

Bradford was born in May 1933. She worked as a typist at the Yorkshire Evening Post, and then became a reporter and the first female editor of the newspaper.

At the age of 20, she moved to London and worked on Fleet Street for Woman's Own and the London Evening News.

She met her husband, American film producer Robert Bradford, in 1961, and they married in London on Christmas Eve 1963, and moved to New York the following year.
