On July 25, the world community draws attention to important security and medical issues within the framework of World Drowning Prevention Day and Embryologist Day. In Ukraine, according to the new church calendar, Orthodox believers celebrate an important holiday — the Dormition of Righteous Anna, mother of the Virgin Mary, reports UNN.
World Drowning Prevention Day
An important initiative proclaimed by the UN General Assembly. The goal of the day is to draw attention to the fact that drowning is one of the leading causes of death worldwide (especially among children), and to emphasize the importance of observing water safety rules.
World Embryologist Day
A professional holiday for specialists in reproductive medicine. The date was chosen in honor of a historical event: on July 25, 1978, Louise Brown was born — the first person in the world conceived using the method of in vitro fertilization (IVF).
National Day of Galicia in Spain
Also known as Saint James Day (patron saint of Spain and Galicia). It is accompanied by mass celebrations in the city of Santiago de Compostela.
Merry-Go-Round Day
A nostalgic holiday dedicated to one of the oldest and most romantic fairground attractions. The date was chosen in honor of the patenting of the first modern carousel in 1871.
National Wine and Cheese Day
A popular gastronomic holiday in the USA that honors the perfect culinary combination — noble cheeses and a glass of good wine.
Hot Fudge Sundae Day: A holiday dedicated to the classic American dessert — scoops of ice cream generously topped with hot chocolate syrup, which instantly thickens in the cold.
Dormition of Righteous Anna
According to the new (New Julian) calendar, on July 25, Saint Anna is honored — the mother of the Most Holy Theotokos and grandmother of Jesus Christ. Among the people, the holiday was often called "Summer Anna" or "Anna the Cold." It was believed that from this day the first cold mornings begin, reminding of the approach of autumn. The weather on this day was used to predict what winter would be like: if the morning is cold — winter will be harsh, if it rains — winter will be snowy.
For those who adhere to the old (Julian) calendar: On July 25, the memory of the martyrs Proclus and Hilary is honored. In folk tradition, the day was named "Proclus the Weeper." The name is associated with the fact that during this period very heavy morning dews usually fell, which people compared to tears. This dew was traditionally used for washing, considering it healing.
