NNEGC Energoatom has signed a loan agreement with a consortium of banks for £181 million to purchase nuclear fuel from Urenco. The 5-year loan is guaranteed by the UK government through the UKEF.

NNEGC Energoatom and a consortium including Deutsche Bank AG and Barclays Bank PLC signed a loan agreement worth £181 million on July 17, 2024. This was reported by the Ministry of Energy, UNN writes.

A loan of £181 million signed between Energoatom and a consortium including Deutsche Bank AG and Barclays Bank PLC is intended to finance the contract with Urenco. The funds will be used to purchase nuclear fuel, including enriched and natural uranium hexafluoride. The agreement provides for the supply of nuclear materials until 2035, with an option to extend the contract until 2043. The 5-year loan is secured by a guarantee from the UK government through the UK Export Credit Agency (UKEF).

Cooperation with the United Kingdom in the nuclear field is of strategic importance for our country. Ukraine has completely abandoned any contacts with the terrorist state of Russia in the nuclear industry, including the supply of enriched uranium. Continuing long-term cooperation with British partners in this area not only strengthens our energy independence, but is also important for the future development of the nuclear industry on a global scale

- said Herman Halushchenko, Minister of Energy of Ukraine.

In November 2023, Energoatom and Urenco signed a contract for the supply of enriched uranium product for Ukrainian NPPs.
