Ukraine and Poland discussed the transfer of MiG-29 aircraft and deepening defense cooperation. Poland had already transferred such fighters in 2023.

Ukraine and Poland discussed the transfer of Polish MiG-29 aircraft to the Ukrainian side, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced on social media on Friday, UNN reports.

We are deepening defense cooperation with Poland - focusing on strengthening air defense, drone development, and aircraft transfer

- Fedorov noted.

He announced this following a conversation with Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of National Defense of Poland Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.

"I thanked our partners for their strategic support of Ukraine. Poland plays a key logistical role - about 90% of international aid, including for strengthening Ukraine's energy resilience, comes through its territory," the head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine said.

According to him, the parties focused on a number of areas of cooperation, including:

  • joint defense projects and European mechanisms. "I am grateful to Poland for its participation in PURL and its readiness to jointly implement defense projects with a focus on drone development," the minister said, adding that he separately noted the role of the NATO-Ukraine JATEC Joint Center in Poland as a platform for analyzing war experience, exchanging knowledge, and implementing NATO standards;
    • strengthening "small" air defense. Polish technologies, according to Fedorov, are already an important part of our "small" air defense. The minister indicated his readiness to further develop cooperation and expand the radar field.
      • aviation capabilities.

        Separately, the transfer of MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine was discussed - an important component for protecting our skies. Poland already transferred such fighters in 2023. We will work together on their modernization to increase efficiency and hit enemy targets

        - Fedorov noted.

        Also, for his part, the minister indicated, "we are ready to share Ukrainian solutions - in particular, in the field of countering Shaheds." "Data from the battlefield and our practical experience can be useful for strengthening the capabilities of the Polish army," he noted.

        "I thank Poland for its fruitful cooperation and support of Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale Russian invasion," the minister concluded.
