In Ternopil, two doctors will be tried in court, after a child died during dental treatment with them, the Ternopil Regional Prosecutor's Office reported, writes UNN.
Details
In early August 2023, the parents of a one-year-old boy consulted a dental surgeon. He was diagnosed with multiple dental caries and referred for surgery under anesthesia. However, the doctor did not collect detailed information about the child's condition and the presence of previous diseases before the surgery, although the boy's blood test result indicated the presence of inflammatory processes in the body, the prosecutor's office said.
During the operation on November 13, 2023, in a medical facility in Ternopil, the child's blood pressure began to drop, and the young patient was taken to the intensive care unit, where he died.
According to forensic medical examination, the preliminary cause of death was acute cardiopulmonary insufficiency. The child was 1 year and 10 months old at the time. Currently, the pre-trial investigation has been completed and the indictment has been sent to court.
"Prosecutors... sent to court an indictment against a dental surgeon and an anesthesiologist of one of the Ternopil hospitals for improper performance of professional duties by medical workers during the treatment of a child (Part 2 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the statement reads.
