In August 2025, Trump announced his intention to fire Cook, accusing her of alleged mortgage fraud. However, a federal district court in Washington blocked this decision due to insufficient evidence, and later the Supreme Court allowed her to remain in office until the final consideration of the case.
Cook from the very beginning denied all accusations and insisted that the president does not have the legal authority to dismiss members of the Fed's Board of Governors.
