The Trump administration has come under fire in court for revoking visas for foreign students. This is reported by CNN, reports UNN.

A new lawsuit is unfolding in the United States, challenging the actions of the Donald Trump administration in the field of immigration. The Atlanta law firm Kuck Baxter, which specializes in the rights of foreigners, has filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of a group of foreign students whose visas were revoked on dubious grounds.

According to attorney Dustin Baxter, the lawsuit currently covers about 20 students, but that number could rise to two hundred. All of them are studying in educational institutions in the state of Georgia and are threatened with deportation after the intervention of immigration services.

The lawsuit is addressed to high-ranking officials of the former administration: among the defendants are former US Attorney General Pam Bondi, former head of the Department of Homeland Security Christie Noem, and interim director of the immigration service Todd Lyons.

According to lawyers, visas were cancelled even in cases where the student was not convicted: elementary contact with the police was enough for deportation - even a conversation or warning. In some cases, students had no violations, but were still on deportation lists.

Human rights activists see these actions as a serious violation of rights, including the right to peaceful assembly. Attorney Baxter emphasizes that even participation in a protest cannot be the basis for visa cancellation, unless it involves criminal acts.

Meanwhile, some politicians, such as Senator Marco Rubio, say that foreigners should not interfere in the country's socio-political processes. In his opinion, students should study, not participate in protests, which he calls "destructive".

Let us remind you

Earlier, the US canceled all valid visas for citizens of South Sudan and limited their further issuance. The reason is the inability of the government of South Sudan to make a timely decision on the return of its citizens.
