Polish President Andrzej Duda has taken the oath of office from members of the new government of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, UNN reports citing Polish Radio.
In the presidential palace, the head of government presented the composition of the Cabinet of Ministers, which will seek a vote of confidence in the Sejm. The prime minister has two weeks to secure the support of MPs.
The President emphasized that the new government consists mainly of experts who have been engaged in substantive work:
"I know most of the new government. I know them as experts. These people have been working on the second line until now, fulfilling their assigned tasks. Now these people have taken over political functions in the conduct of Polish affairs. I thank them, it is extremely important."
According to the Constitution, if the government is not elected in the first stage, the Sejm takes the initiative in forming the government; the candidacy of the Prime Minister can be proposed by a group of at least 46 MPs. The Sejm elects the Prime Minister with an absolute majority of votes.
