Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar denied any ties to Russian intelligence networks after suspicions emerged regarding her longtime friend of Russian origin. TVP reports, according to UNN.

Details

The scandal arose after a road accident at the end of July in which the president suffered a broken collarbone. Pirc Musar's longtime friend, Viktoria Krivolutskaya, a Slovenian citizen of Russian origin, was in the car with her.

On Wednesday, the Parliamentary Security Committee invited representatives of the Slovenian intelligence service SOVA to appear next week. The lawmakers want information about possible links between the president, her friend, and Russian intelligence.

What is known about the president's friend

The investigation began after Slovenian media reported on Krivolutskaya's ties to Roman Jeglič, a former Slovenian intelligence officer who defected to Russia in the mid-1990s.

Krivolutskaya confirmed that she had a romantic relationship with Jeglič and lived with him in Russia for several years. At the same time, she said that she had not been in contact with him for more than 15 years.

Jean Mahnič, a lawmaker from the ruling center-right Slovenian Democratic Party, called on the government to temporarily stop providing the president with intelligence and security reports because of suspicions about her possible ties to a Russian spy network.
