The Ministry of Social Policy told how many Ukrainians returned to the occupied territories

About a thousand Ukrainians have returned to the temporarily occupied territories. Out of 4.9 million IDPs, 29,000 people have returned to their previous places of residence, most of them to conditionally safe areas.

About one thousand Ukrainians have returned to the temporarily occupied territories. This was reported by the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine at the request of Radio Liberty, UNN reports.

Also, according to the agency, as of December 2, almost five million internally displaced persons (IDPs) were registered in Ukraine.

"As of December 2, 2023, 4.9 million IDPs were registered. That is, the number of IDPs decreased by 250 thousand people over the year. According to the electronic systems of the Ministry of Social Policy, as of 01.11.2024, a total of 29 thousand people (about 7.7% of the total number of those who have been deregistered) returned to their previous place of residence," the Ministry said in a commentary.

The Ministry of Social Policy explained that out of 29,000 people, one thousand returned to the temporarily occupied territories, while most of them went to "conditionally safe territories" and some to the territories where hostilities are ongoing.

"This number includes Ukrainians who returned to any of the country's regions, including those considered conditionally safe (for example, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, etc.). Of these 29 thousand, one thousand returned to the TOT; 18.9 thousand returned to conditionally safe areas; 9 thousand returned to areas of possible hostilities," the agency explained.

Earlier, MP Maksym Tkachenko stated that 150,000 IDPs had returned to the occupation, but later denied this information himself.
