The fact that Western politicians are no longer talking about red lines, reacting to the operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the kursk region, can be seen as a victory of common sense. This was said by the Lithuanian Defense Minister Laurynas Kasciunas, writes UNN with reference to the BBC.
It's good that we didn't hear anything from the West about crossing "red lines" when Ukraine started this operation. It was clearly stated that Ukraine can carry out such operations within the framework of its defensive strategy. This is good, this is good news and a victory of reason
In his opinion, now the Western allies of Ukraine should take the next logical steps and, firstly, give Ukraine enough long-range weapons, and secondly, allow them to use it against targets deep inside russia.
The Ukrainians wanted to show that they are capable of such actions, that they can counterattack, can maneuver. Now, I think, the voices that said, no, it is impossible to defeat russia and the like, it is time to be silent and do what we, Lithuania, are doing: continue to help Ukraine, give them such weapons with which they will not only be able to defend themselves, but also return their own
According to the Lithuanian minister, the operation in the kursk region is also a humiliation for putin: "This is obviously an attempt to level the situation, but of course, if you look at it realistically, this is an obvious humiliation for putin".
For the Ukrainians, according to Kasciunas, the obvious effect of this operation is the boost in morale.
He admits that it will be difficult for the Ukrainian army to hold the territories in the kursk region for a long time, but at the same time assumes that the results of the operation will strengthen Ukraine's position in the negotiations - when and if they are discussed.
Recall
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reported that he had heard a report from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, according to which there is progress of 1-2 km since the beginning of the day and already more than 100 captured Russian military personnel in the Kursk region.
