At least 74 people have been killed as a result of a powerful magnitude-7.4 earthquake that struck Colombia today, according to CNN, based on preliminary reports from governors and mayors of the affected areas, reports UNN.
The governor of the department of Risaralda in west-central Colombia, Juan Diego Patiño, told BluRadio that the department had become one of the main sources of fatalities, with at least 40 deaths confirmed there so far.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 occurred at a depth of 103 km in the province of Chocó, the country's geological service reported.
The mayor of Pereira, located in Colombia's coffee region, said that at least 18 people had died as a result of the earthquake.
This earthquake occurred less than two months after two earthquakes devastated northern neighboring Venezuela, killing more than 6,100 people.
Monday's earthquake was centered near the village of San José del Palmar in the province of Chocó on the country's Pacific coast.
