Details

“I cannot give you a definite answer to this question, but I can say that, according to the current position of our president, the circumstances have changed. Russia launched a new offensive on Kharkiv across Ukraine's border, and common sense demanded that Ukraine be given the opportunity to strike back

Sullivan said.

Context

In May, the United States limitedly authorized Ukraine to launch strikes with American weapons on the territory of the Russian Federation. It was officially stated that Kyiv was allowed to strike at the territory from which the offensive was being conducted. According to the Associated Press, American weapons are only allowed to be used for strikes 20 kilometers from the border in Kharkiv region. Sources also reported that Ukraine is prohibited from using long-range ATACMS missiles for attacks.
