Military counterintelligence exposed a lieutenant colonel of the Special Forces who was recruited by Russia for a full-scale invasion. The agent was passing information to the enemy about the Armed Forces' plans for special operations in southern Ukraine.

SBU with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the AFU Alexander Sirsky detained an agent of the Russian GRU, who passed to the enemy plans of operations of the Ukrainian Defence Forces in the rear, reports UNN.

Military counterintelligence and SBU investigators, with the participation of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Commander of the SSU, exposed an "activated" Russian military intelligence agent. The offender turned out to be a lieutenant colonel, commander of one of the SSU units, recruited by the occupiers before the full-scale invasion.

In the spring of 2024, a Russian GRU officer remotely "activated" the agent, tasking him with transmitting data on plans for Ukrainian special operations behind the front line. Of particular interest to the aggressor was information about raids by Ukrainian special forces in the Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Crimean regions.

Using his official position, the mole obtained information about the movement routes, weapons and targets of Ukrainian soldiers. The occupiers planned to use this information to destroy the Special Forces both on the front line and in the temporarily occupied territories of southern Ukraine.

The agent also passed on information about other units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces to his Russian handler.

In the course of the special operation, the SBU military counterintelligence documented the traitor's crimes in stages and detained him. At the same time, measures were taken to ensure the security of the Defense Forces locations.

According to the investigation, the offender was recruited by Russian military intelligence through his acquaintances in Russia, with whom he maintained contact.

During the searches, the police seized his means of secret communication, computer equipment, mobile phone and data storage devices.

The detainee was served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason under martial law). He is currently in custody and may face life imprisonment with confiscation of property. The operation was conducted by investigators of the SBU Odesa Department in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office.
