British intelligence reports a slowdown in the pace of Russian advance in Ukraine. In March 2025, they captured 143 km², mostly in the Donetsk region, but without improving their positions.

Russian territorial gains in Ukraine decreased during the first quarter of 2025, with Russian forces likely capturing only 143 km² of Ukrainian territory in March 2025, an average of less than 5 square kilometers per day. This was reported by the intelligence community of the British Ministry of Defense, reports UNN.

Details

It is noted that the rate of Russia's advance has been decreasing month by month since November 2024, when its troops captured more than 700 km² of Ukrainian territory.

Most of the Russian forces' advances in March 2025 took place in the central part of the Donetsk region, but Russia did not improve its operational position. Ukrainian forces also carried out tactical counterattacks, which partially reversed Russia's gains around Pokrovsk

- the statement reads.

It is also noted that the level of Russian ground attacks in several directions decreased during most of March 2025.

"Attacks began to increase closer to the end of the month, but this did not lead to a higher rate of advance," British intelligence officers summarized.
