Russian propaganda is circulating an edited video of a sign language interpreter who is allegedly holding a sign about lies. The CCD has confirmed the use of a deepfake.

Russian propaganda resources are circulating a falsified video in which a sign language interpreter allegedly displays a sign reading "You are being lied to" during a broadcast of a statement by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation, according to UNN.

Details

The Center emphasized that the clip is a forgery created using artificial intelligence and video editing.

According to the CCD, a genuine recording of a "Kyiv24" TV channel broadcast was used for the fake; however, the interpreter's movements were completely altered, and the sign was added artificially.

The TV channel has already officially denied the authenticity of this video.

The Center for Countering Disinformation notes that such plants are part of a systematic Russian campaign aimed at discrediting the Ukrainian leadership and destabilizing the situation within the country.

By using deepfake technology, the enemy is attempting to create an illusion of internal resistance and undermine trust in the authorities

- the CCD emphasized.
