Russian neo-Nazi claims responsibility for Farion's murder: police are investigating

Law enforcement officials are studying information about the involvement of the Russian neo-Nazi movement in the murder of Irina Farion. Police are considering several versions, including public activity and personal animosity.

Law enforcement officials are checking the information spread by Russian media that a representative of the Russian neo-Nazi movement claimed responsibility for the murder of linguist Iryna Farion. This was reported by Svitlana Dobrovolska, a spokeswoman for the Lviv regional police, to UNN .

Asked whether the police were checking the information that a representative of the Russian neo-Nazi movement had claimed responsibility for Farion's murder, Dobrovolskaya replied:

Yes. We found this information yesterday while monitoring social media. Now we are studying whether it will be useful for the investigation

- said a police spokeswoman.

Context

The Russian Telegram channel Astra reported that  a video was posted on the Telegram channel of the NS/WP (National-Socialism/White Power) neo-Nazi movement, allegedly showing the moment of Irina Farion's murder. The video shows a ten-second excerpt where women's screams are heard. The video also shows the manifesto of an “autonomous revolutionary racist” who claimed responsibility for the murder.

The manifesto is written in Russian. The author of Farion's murder attributed the motiveto the fact that the former MP incited hatred on the basis of language within Ukrainian society.

On July 19, an unidentified person shot at Iryna Farion, a linguist and professor at Lviv Polytechnic. The woman was taken to the hospital with a head wound in an extremely serious condition. Iryna Farion died in the hospital.

The police have several versions of the murder of linguist Irina Farion, including public and political activities and personal animosity. Law enforcers found a shell casing after the shooting and do not rule out a “Russian trace” in the crime.

Law enforcement officers are establishing the identity and location of the man who may be involved in the murder of Irina Farion.
