U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Washington continues to try to bring Ukraine and Russia to the negotiating table; however, the parties currently show no readiness for the necessary compromises. According to him, the greatest resistance to concessions is observed specifically from the Russian side. Rubio said this during hearings in the U.S. House of Representatives, UNN reports.

"Unfortunately, up to this point, neither side is willing to make the concessions, especially on the Russian side, necessary to achieve peace,"
He emphasized that the U.S. remains ready to "play any role to achieve peace" and believes that the war has no military solution.
At the same time, the Secretary of State stressed that the United States is not a neutral mediator in this war.
"America is not an impartial mediator because we are supplying weapons not to Russia, but to Ukraine, and we are imposing sanctions specifically against Russia,"
Rubio also noted that the supply of weapons to Ukraine under the PURL program should ultimately facilitate reaching a negotiated settlement. According to him, Washington hopes that "this year will bring better news."
