President Klaus Johannis appointed Social Democratic Party (PSD) leader Marcel Csolak to a new prime ministerial mandate on Monday, a day after consulting with parliamentary parties.

The coalition government, which is expected to pass a vote of confidence in parliament on Monday, includes Csolak's Social Democrats, the center-right Liberals, and the ethnic Hungarian party UDMR.

The Social Democratic Party will hold eight government positions, including justice, transportation, labor, and defense, and most of its current ministers will remain in office.

The center-right Liberal Party will have six cabinet positions, including the ministries of energy, interior, and foreign affairs. The ethnic Hungarian party UDMR will have two positions, including in finance.

Together with representatives of local ethnic minorities, the three parties will have a small majority in the legislature.

The negotiations on the new government are over. The pro-European coalition formed by the PSD, PNL, UDMR and minorities decided to form a majority and a government. Today, this majority has been tested in the parliament and it is certain. The pro-European coalition offered me a candidate, which I decided to accept. So, I nominate Mr. Marcel Ciolacă as Prime Minister of the Government of Romania. At the same time, let me wish success to the new coalitions, the pro-European, pro-Romanian coalition, which has every chance to keep Romania on a very good course after the undeniable economic successes, after Romania's accession to the Schengen area, and I believe that they will handle very well the challenges that we are certainly facing now, such as building the budget and setting the calendar for the presidential elections

said the Romanian president.
