The Romanian Navy on Tuesday carried out a controlled explosion of a mine that drifted to the Black Sea coast. This was reported by the country's Ministry of Defense, UNN reports with reference to Reuters.
Details
Romania's Defense Ministry reported that early Tuesday morning local authorities alerted the navy to an unidentified object that washed ashore in the Grindul Cituc area in the southeast of the country. The area is part of the Danube Delta, which Romania shares with Ukraine.
"Based on the results of studying the photos taken at the site, the object is most likely an anti-personnel mine of the YARM type," the ministry said in a statement.
The mine was detonated at approximately 09:50 GMT, the ministry added.
Addendum
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Romania has discovered and destroyed more than 100 drift mines.
In early July, Turkey, Romania, and Bulgaria created a joint mine-searching force in the Black Sea to improve the safety of shipping, especially for Ukrainian grain exports.
