The Kyiv Court of Appeal upheld the verdict that found two former officers of the Kaharlyk police department guilty of torture, enforced disappearance and rape. This was reported by UNN with reference to the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office.

Details

“...Kyiv Court of Appeal upheld the verdict of the Obukhiv District Court, which found two former employees of the Kaharlyk police department of the Obukhiv department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv region guilty of torture, enforced disappearance and rape (Articles 127, 146-1, 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine),” the statement said.

It is noted that these officials tortured and illegally detained people. In particular, in May 2020, law enforcement officers tortured a woman who was summoned to the police station as a witness. They put a gas mask and handcuffs on her and fired service weapons over her head. After that, the victim was raped several times.

“The investigation revealed a number of cases of torture in the said department. In the same month, another victim was beaten and tortured to extract a confession. In addition, in January 2020, the convicts, in order to obtain confessions for allegedly committing thefts, inflicted bodily harm on two victims, took them in a trunk to the outskirts of the city, and tortured them with electric shocks. After that, they handcuffed them to a radiator in the corridor, where they were kept until the next day,” the Prosecutor General's Office added.
