Public sector workers joined the protesters on Rustaveli Avenue, where the protest has been going on for 14 days. This was reported by Echo of the Caucasus, according to UNN.
Details
It is noted that civil servants joined the protesters near the Georgian parliament building.
City Hall employee Giga Sopromadze says that civil servants are protesting not only because of the rejection of the 2028 EU membership application, but also because of the forms of intimidation of protesters.
We are people employed in the public service, and the purpose of our protest is to make our voice heard by the public, including those who represent our employers today, that we remain loyal to the Constitution and society, and remain committed to the European course. At the same time, we call on them to stop the violence against us, the use of various forms of intimidation, which have been numerous lately
Also the day before, the Georgian parliament, which is not recognized by either the president or the opposition, supported a bill amending the law on civil service. The main changes include simplification of the reorganization process so that civil servants dismissed for any reason, including political reasons, cannot return to the civil service system.
According to Echo of the Caucasus, experts believe that with these changes, the Georgian Dream will, on the contrary, weaken the rights of civil servants and use the laws as a punitive tool, especially after hundreds of civil servants signed statements criticizing the government's decision to postpone European integration until 2028 during pro-European rallies.
Recall
