A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 occurred in northern Chile. This was reported by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), according to UNN.
Details
According to seismologists, the epicenter of the earthquake was located east of the city of Calama in the north of the country. Earlier, GFZ estimated the magnitude of the tremors at 6.5, but later upgraded the figure to 6.9.
Tremors were felt in the Antofagasta region
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that the earthquake was also felt in the area of the port city of Antofagasta. According to its data, the magnitude of the tremors was 6.8.
The earthquake occurred shortly before 1:00 AM Kyiv time. There have been no reports of casualties, injuries, or large-scale destruction so far.
