The new Polish government believes that the country should legalize same-sex partnerships. This was stated by the new Deputy Minister of Justice of Poland Arkadiusz Mircha in a commentary to RMF FM, UNN reports.
Details
Recently the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled that Poland violated the right to private and family life by denying same-sex couples any form of legal recognition and protection.
Against the backdrop of this statement, journalists asked a government official about plans to legalize same-sex partnerships.
We believe that this should be introduced into the Polish legal system
At the same time, he emphasized that Polish President Andrzej Duda, who comes from the conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party, is likely to be skeptical of the proposal.
However, he said, this does not relieve the new cabinet of the obligation to "try to show full diligence in implementing this kind of decisions."
We are talking about fundamental human rights
Arkadiusz Mircha noted that this issue could be raised in parliament "in the near future." He also added that he was not aware of consultations between the Ministry of Justice and the president on this issue. [On December 12,
the European Court of Human Rights found that the Polish authorities violated human rights when they did not allow same-sex couples to form a formal union on their territory.
The applicants are 10 Polish citizens born between 1963 and 1991 who live in same-sex families in the cities of Lodz, Krakow, and Warsaw.

The applicants emphasized that the vast majority of Council of Europe member states grant same-sex couples the right to marry or enter into registered civil unions, so they are effectively discriminated against, for example, in matters of inheritance, taxation, etc.
