Warsaw has decided to wait for the final draft law and the list of individuals in the pantheon. A key moment could be the anniversary of the Volyn tragedy on July 11.

The Polish government currently does not plan to take official diplomatic measures in response to the statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the creation of the Ukrainian National Pantheon. This was reported by Onet, citing unofficial sources, writes UNN.

Details

According to the publication, Warsaw has decided to wait for the final version of the draft law and the list of individuals planned to be included in the pantheon. One of the key moments could be July 11 – the anniversary of the Volyn tragedy.

Summoning the ambassador or sending a note makes no sense at the moment. We cannot allow Ukrainians to provoke us

– a high-ranking Polish official told Onet.

As the publication notes, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the preparation of the draft law during the celebration of Ukraine's Constitution Day. According to him, the National Pantheon should honor people who fought for the freedom and independence of Ukraine in various historical periods. The president also stated that no one has the right to tell Ukrainians which heroes to honor.

Warsaw awaits the final list of names

According to Onet, the Polish authorities consider any harsh reaction premature, as it could only escalate the situation and allow Kyiv to present the dispute as an attempt to impose its own vision of history on Ukraine.

At the same time, the publication's interlocutors note that the list of individuals included in the pantheon will be decisive. According to one of the officials, the Polish side is already receiving signals about the possible inclusion of Stepan Bandera.

I do not want to name specific names that would be unacceptable to us now, but we are already receiving signals that Stepan Bandera may appear on the list. That would be critical news for our relations

– stated the Onet interlocutor.

The publication also notes that, despite a possible escalation in political relations, the Polish government is not considering reducing military aid to Ukraine, as it considers it an important component of the security of Poland and the entire region. At the same time, Warsaw does not rule out a cooling of political contacts and a tougher stance during discussions on Ukraine's European integration if historical contradictions escalate.
