Details

On May 16, inspectors received information from the ranger service regarding an act of poaching, after which they immediately departed for the scene.

Unfortunately, the information was confirmed — the illegal harvesting of a male European elk was recorded, a species listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and under special state protection

- the report says.

The police were immediately called to the scene. They are currently conducting investigative actions to find the perpetrators.

The fact that under martial law, in the border region of Chernihiv, there are individuals who deliberately destroy rare wild animals for easy profit causes particular outrage. Such actions not only violate the law but also cause irreparable damage to the natural environment and threaten the preservation of unique Ukrainian fauna

-  the agency states.

The State Inspection emphasized that hunting animal species listed in the Red Book of Ukraine is strictly prohibited and entails criminal liability.

Furthermore, no decision was made to open the hunting season in the Chernihiv region for 2024. Any hunting on the territory of the region is illegal.
