A number of People's Deputies of Ukraine have appealed to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy demanding that he consider the issue of dismissing General Oleksandr Syrskyi from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The MPs also demand that the issue of appointing a new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine be considered based on criteria of professional effectiveness and a focus on measurable technological results.
Furthermore, the appeal states the need to introduce a procedure for regular reporting by the senior military command to the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. It is proposed to do this in a closed session in order to restore the balance of democratic civilian control.
The decision regarding the senior command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is made only by the President, as the Supreme Commander-in-Chief (Article 106 of the Constitution). However, People's Deputies have the right to send a request to the President. This is not just a document, but a document that must be supported by 226+ MPs. That is, a decision of the Parliament
He added that any People's Deputy can join this appeal until Monday.
