Viktor Orbán has been re-elected as the leader of Fidesz following the party's transition to the opposition. Despite falling ratings, he received unanimous support from party members.

Viktor Orbán has been re-elected as the leader of the Hungarian Fidesz party, despite growing internal discontent following a historic defeat in the parliamentary elections. This was reported by Bloomberg, according to UNN.

It is noted that the vote showed the former prime minister continues to dominate his party, even as public support has waned and Fidesz moves into opposition after 16 years in power. Facing no challengers, Orbán received 729 votes from party members, with none against and eight abstentions.

Recent polls paint a grim picture for Fidesz, which has been losing support since its crushing defeat in April to the rising Tisza party. The latest surveys by independent pollsters show that Prime Minister Péter Magyar's Tisza party has nearly three times more support among voters than Fidesz, marking a sharp reversal for the once-dominant party,

- the article states.

It is pointed out that the 63-year-old Orbán remained defiant in his speech at the party congress in Budapest, characterizing Magyar as a "viceroy" serving Western interests. He accused Hungary's new administration of undermining national sovereignty, warning that "by autumn, Hungary will resist these constant abuses."

Orbán acknowledged responsibility for the strategic failures that led to Fidesz's defeat but said he is still the right person to lead the party's revival.

As a reminder

Hungary's Integrity Authority believes that the activities of officials in former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's government should be investigated over the "disappearance of billions of euros" in European Union funds.
