Tensions are rising in Venezuela following the disputed presidential election results. Today, the opposition movement Vente Venezuela announced that its headquarters in Caracas was vandalized overnight.
A group of hooded men broke into, kidnapped and destroyed the Venezuelan opposition's election headquarters.
On behalf of Plataforma Unitaria, we condemn the attack that took place early this morning at Quinta Bejucal, the headquarters of @ConVzlaComando, by armed men wearing hoods with no insignia.
Strong protests continue across the country after the election. At the same time, a number of countries, including Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and the United States, have issued statements on the following:
- election results should be verified impartially;
- all political actors should avoid escalation of violence;
- electoral disputes should be resolved through institutions.
At the same time, the United States said that Maduro should recognize the victory of the opposition candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia. Argentina, recognized Gonzalez as the winner of the election.
We call on the electoral authorities in Venezuela to move quickly and allow the detailed results of the ballot boxes to be publicly released

According to Human Rights Watch, at least 20 people were killed during the protests in Venezuela. Nicolas Maduro of the Socialist Unity Party (PSUV) has been in office since the death of his predecessor and mentor Hugo Chavez in 2013. The country with rich oil reserves has been experiencing a deep economic and humanitarian crisis for years. Millions of Venezuelans have fled the country to escape poverty and corruption.
