"The NABU and the SAPO served notice of suspicion to two officials of the Volyn Customs, whose actions caused losses to the state in the amount of more than UAH 53 million," the NABU said.
According to the investigation, in October-December 2020, customs officials facilitated the illegal transportation of Apple computer equipment through the Yahodyn international checkpoint without proper payment of customs duties. In particular, the imported products were disguised as used agricultural machinery and mechanical equipment.
In total, eight episodes were documented when customs officials deliberately failed to notice the illegal movement of goods, drew up forged documents, and entered false information into the Inspector automated customs clearance system, thereby illegally minimizing customs payments.
The actions of the persons are qualified under Part 2 of Article 364 and Part 1 of Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The investigation is ongoing, and the NABU and SAPO are identifying other possible participants in the crime.
