New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani analyzes legal mechanisms for executing the ICC arrest warrant for the Prime Minister of Israel. He considers Netanyahu a war criminal but acknowledges the limitations of his authority.

New York Mayor Zogran Mamdani said his team is analyzing legal mechanisms that could allow the execution of the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his possible visit to the city for the UN General Assembly. This was reported by The Telegraph, writes UNN.

Mamdani, who previously promised to seek enforcement of the ICC warrant, stated in an interview with The New York Times that Netanyahu, in his opinion, should stand trial in The Hague.

"I believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu should be in The Hague. He is a war criminal who has been indicted by the International Criminal Court,"

the mayor said.

According to Mamdani, he is currently consulting with lawyers from the city administration, as it is unclear whether the mayor has the authority to order the New York police to detain the head of a foreign state.

"Whatever the law allows me to do in New York, we will do, but we will not write our own laws for this purpose,"

he noted.

Possible conflict with Washington's position

As The Telegraph notes, Netanyahu is expected in New York at the end of September to participate in the UN General Assembly.

Trump urged Netanyahu to begin withdrawing Israeli troops from Syria and Lebanon14.07.26, 21:40

If such intentions are attempted, Mamdani may face the position of the U.S. federal authorities. Washington does not recognize the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, and President Donald Trump previously imposed sanctions against the ICC, accusing the court of illegal actions against the United States and Israel.

Netanyahu himself previously stated that he intends to arrive in New York despite the mayor's statements. This week, he sharply criticized Mamdani, accusing him of bias against Israel and supporting positions that, according to the Israeli prime minister, contradict American values.
