Emmanuel Macron, in his address to the nation, rejected opposition pressure to resign, promising to remain in office "completely, until the end of his mandate" in 2027.

Macron also held talks with socialist leaders who agreed to compromise on forming a government as part of a short-term agreement.

The socialists joined their colleagues on the left and far-right in voting to remove Michel Barnier. It's only been three months since he was appointed Macron.

The French President thanked Michel Barnier for his dedication during his short term as prime minister and accused MPs of collaborating with the "anti-Republican front" to overthrow the government.

In France, a candidate for the post of prime minister is chosen by the president. However, the prime minister must answer to Parliament. Michel Barnier held office for only three months before being ousted by a vote of no confidence.

The search for a new prime minister, whom the parliament will not reject immediately, may not be easy for Macron.

The French president was scheduled to hold talks with several political leaders and inform the French about the appointment of a new prime minister in the coming days.

However, before meeting with socialist leaders, he held talks with centrists in Macron's camp, hoping to persuade them to secede from the broader left — wing bloc, the new Popular Front. The French president will also talk to right-wing Republicans.

On the eve of the talks, Socialist leader Olivier Faure said he was open to discussions and "compromises on every issue" regarding the formation of a government based on a "fixed-term contract". But he also made it clear that he did not want to "ensure the continuity of Macronism.

A vote of no confidence was filed by both the left-wing alliance of the new Popular Front and Le Pen'S RN.

They banded together to denounce the government after a former Brexit negotiator used special powers to force its budget without a vote.

A total of 331 MPs voted to support the proposal against Michel Barnier.

For now, Michel Barnier will temporarily remain in office along with his ministers until the appointment of a new government. Emmanuel Macron was sharply criticized for his decision to call early elections, creating a dead end in Parliament and escalating the political crisis.

"Many people have accused me of this and, I know, many continue to accuse me. This is a fact, and this is my responsibility," the French president admitted.

Macron did not specify who will be the next prime minister, but said they will focus on the 2025 budget.

There is speculation that potential candidates for prime minister may include Defense Minister Sebastian Lecorne, Interior Minister Bruno Retailo and former centrist presidential candidate Francois Bayrou.
