Yesterday, a new chapter opened in the Middle East with the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria, Netanyahu said.
He highlights the billions of dollars Iran has invested in maintaining Assad's power and the regime's brutality towards its citizens. He calls Syria an "outpost of Iranian terror" and a pipeline of weapons from Iran to Hezbollah.
Referring to Israel's seizure of the Golan Heights in 1967 and subsequent annexation, Netanyahu says that "today everyone understands the great importance of our presence there, in the Golan, and not in the foothills of the Golan." He says that Israel's presence there guarantees its security and sovereignty, and thanks US President-elect Donald Trump for recognizing the annexation of the Golan by Israel in 2019.
"The Golan Heights will forever remain an integral part of Israel," he says.
Netanyahu repeats the claim that the fall of Assad is "a direct result of the heavy strikes that we have inflicted on Hamas, on Hezbollah and on Iran.
