Mexico wants to avoid retaliatory tariffs against the US

The President of Mexico stated her unwillingness to introduce retaliatory tariffs, such as on steel and aluminum, against the United States, fearing the consequences for Mexican businesses, preferring dialogue.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Monday that she would like to avoid imposing retaliatory tariffs on the United States "as much as possible," UNN reports, citing ABC.

Sheinbaum said Mexico could impose similar tariffs on steel and aluminum, but is concerned about the consequences for Mexican business.

"We prefer to continue the dialogue before taking any further action," she said during her daily press conference.

Since April 10, China will impose a duty of 34% on imports of all goods from the United States.
