The national football team of Ukraine played its first match under the leadership of Italian coach Andrea Maldera. In Wrocław, the "blue-and-yellows" defeated the Polish team, UNN reports.
Details
The friendly match ended with a score of 2:0 in favor of the Ukrainians. Yaremchuk and Yarmolenko scored goals in the first half.
By the way: Yarmolenko's goal was his 47th in the national team jersey (in his 126th match), and he is now just one scoring strike away from the goalscoring record of Andriy Shevchenko, who has 48 goals for the Ukrainian national team.
After the game, Andrea Maldera stated that he could never have imagined such a debut as the head coach of the Ukrainian national team.
"With these players, but especially with this national team. These are players who make football complex or simple. The players made this debut very simple for me because from the first moment they trusted me completely, and they gave me a lot of courage. What we did in two days was very difficult to do, and I appreciate it immensely,"
It should be added that next Sunday, June 7, the country's main team will play another friendly match - in Lviv against the Danish team.
As a reminder
On May 18, the Ukrainian Association of Football announced the appointment of Andrea Maldera as the head coach of the Ukrainian national team, replacing Serhiy Rebrov. The contract with the Italian is for two years.
