June 21 will mark the summer solstice, one of the strongest days of the year. Astrologer Ksenia Bazylenko advises focusing on gratitude and inner work on this day.

June 21 marks one of the most important and sacred points of the year. In astrology, the summer solstice, along with the winter solstice, spring equinox, and autumn equinox, belongs to the four most powerful moments of the annual cycle. Professional astrologer Ksenia Bazylenko told UNN readers in detail about what awaits us on this day.

Details

According to Bazylenko, on this day the Sun reaches the peak of its power, giving us the longest day and the shortest night of the year.

It is no wonder that for millennia, people of various cultures and nations have treated this period with special reverence, carefully observing the sky, natural cycles, and rhythms of life. For astrology, the Sun is the main luminary. Its position determines the Zodiac sign under which a person is born. The Sun symbolizes life, consciousness, health, creative power, will, joy, children, and our inner "Self." Therefore, the summer solstice is not only a celebration of the Sun in the sky but also a reminder of the Sun within us

- says Bazylenko.

She emphasizes that on this day it is especially important to remember yourself, your true desires, goals, and dreams. To think about what prevents you from moving forward, to work on your thinking, to learn to see the good, to show gratitude, and to appreciate everything that is already in your life.

Our ancestors believed that a person, created in the image and likeness of the Creator, has enormous potential, and therefore, on the days of the Sun's greatest power, one can set great goals, strengthen the spirit, and create a new, happier reality. That is why the summer solstice is an excellent time for positive thoughts, gratitude, inner work on oneself, reconciliation, forgiveness, and creating new intentions for the future

- adds Bazylenko.

Fire and Water - the harmony of two elements

According to the astrologer, on the day of the summer solstice, the Sun enters the first degree of the sign of Cancer, and Cancer is ruled by the Moon.

If the Sun is a symbol of fire, life force, and consciousness, then the Moon symbolizes water, the soul, memory, family, and the inner world of a person. That is why the traditions of this holiday have long combined two great elements - Fire and Water. Fire cleansed, gave strength, and drove away everything dark. Water symbolized life, fertility, healing, and spiritual harmony

- noted the astrologer.

Family, ancestral memory, and the power of roots

The sign of Cancer is associated with lineage, family, generational memory, and homeland, notes Bazylenko.

It is especially symbolic that in 2026, Mercury and Jupiter will also be in the sign of Cancer, further strengthening the themes of family, traditions, roots, and ancestral support.

Our ancestors believed that a person is never alone. The strength of generations, the love of parents, grandparents continues to live in us and support us on our life path. Perhaps that is why the summer solstice has always been not only a celebration of the Sun but also a celebration of memory, gratitude, and connection with one's lineage

- adds Ksenia Bazylenko.

A holiday that came to us from the depths of centuries

Long before the advent of Christianity, the Slavs had the holiday of Kupala. Later, it merged with the traditions of John the Baptist and became known as Ivan Kupala, notes Bazylenko.

She says that among different European peoples, this holiday had its own names: Joninės among the Lithuanians, Jāņi among the Latvians, Midsommar among the Scandinavians, and Midsummer among the Celts. But everywhere, the main symbols remained the Sun, fire, water, herbs, and fertility

Traditions of our ancestors

Bazylenko emphasizes that the night before the solstice was considered special, magical, and sacred.

People lit large bonfires, danced in circles, sang songs, greeted the dawn, and tried to spend the entire day in nature. Jumping over the bonfire symbolized purification from fears, illnesses, and everything that hindered moving forward. The circle dances symbolized the Sun, the unity of people, the strength of the family, and harmony with the world. Our ancestors believed that fire cleanses not only the body but also the soul

- Bazylenko explained.

The power of plants, water, and morning dew

Bazylenko notes that the summer solstice was considered one of the strongest days of the year for herbalists. Plants collected at dawn had special power. That is why legends about the fern flower were born, symbolizing happiness, prosperity, and the search for true treasures.

Girls wove wreaths from wildflowers, sang songs, made wishes, and set the wreaths afloat on the water, entrusting their dreams to the rivers. Morning dew had special significance. It was believed that greeting the dawn, walking barefoot through the dew, and meeting the first rays of the Sun meant receiving a charge of health, youth, and vitality for the entire year

- emphasizes the expert.

The main magic of this day

The astrologer noted that perhaps the true magic of the summer solstice lies not in rituals, but in stopping at least once a year, thanking life, letting go of the old, and opening one's heart to the new.

On this day, it is especially important to guard your thoughts, words, and actions. Kindness, gratitude, love, care for loved ones, and a sincere desire for good for others can multiply the light in our lives. Negativity, resentment, and destructive emotions primarily destroy ourselves. Therefore, let this day be a day of gratitude, reconciliation, bright thoughts, and new dreams. May the power of the Sun, the purity of Water, the wisdom of the Family, and the beauty of Nature fill your life with light, health, and inspiration. Because light always begins within a person. And perhaps, on the day of the summer solstice, we are most able to feel that we are part of the great Universe, part of our Family, and part of the eternal circle of life. Light, love, health, and a happy summer to you

- Bazylenko wished.
