Today, on July 30, all the people of our planet who value strong and lasting relationships between people can join the celebration of the International Day of Friendship. The event was launched by the United Nations in 2011, UNN reports.

The philosophers of Ancient Greece were the first to take a deep interest in the concept and content of friendship. In particular, Aristotle distinguished three types of friendship: friendship for profit, friendship for mutual pleasure, and friendship based on common values. Socrates believed that friends should be united exclusively by the search for truth and wisdom, while Plato argued that people from different social strata could never be friends.

Since 2013, events have been held on July 30 to mark the World Day Against Human Trafficking.

In 2023, 118 Ukrainians were recognized as victims of human trafficking. In particular, Ukrainians suffered the most from: use in armed conflicts - 55 cases, labor exploitation - 22 cases, sexual exploitation - 11 cases, and involvement in criminal activities - 17 cases.

In the first quarter, 43 Ukrainians received the status of victims of human trafficking.

Today, needlework enthusiasts can join the World Embroidery Day.

Embroidery is an ancient needlework folk art that consists in decorating a certain material (tulle, leather, canvas, haze, etc.) with various patterns.

The first mention of embroidery dates back to the first century BC. Embroidery contains information about the faith, rituals, customs, and culture of the people.

Ukrainian embroidery was formed under the influence of Byzantium. In the times of Kievan Rus, embroidery with silver or gold threads was especially popular.

Fans of extreme recreation can celebrate Snorkeling Day on July 30.

Snorkeling is  swimming under the surface of the water with a mask and a breathing tube and usually with fins.

The date of the celebration was chosen in honor of the fact that on July 30, 1932, Joseph Belcher filed a patent application for a breathing tube for underwater swimming.

According to the church calendar, today is the Day of Remembrance of the Holy Apostles Silas, Silouan, Andronicus, and others.

All of them were priests and theologians, visited many lands, and converted many people to Christianity.

Anatolii, Semen, Ivan, and Valentyn celebrate their name days on July 30.
