In Dnipro, unknown vandals destroyed a memorial plaque to Vyacheslav Chornovil on the boulevard named after him. This information was confirmed to a Radio Liberty correspondent by the head of the Dnipro Society of Political Prisoners and Repressed Ivan Dremliuga, UNN reports.
According to him, this fact was discovered by a small group of activists when they came to the site to honor Chornovil's memory. According to Dremliuga, the plaque has been standing since the early 2000s.
"We don't know exactly when it happened. The board was glued and screwed down, so it couldn't have fallen by itself, it was well fixed and had been hanging for over twenty years," he said.
According to Ivan Dremliuha, the activists decided to restore the plaque on their own, possibly in a different design. It will take about 4,500 hryvnias. They announced a fundraiser, and almost half of the amount has already been received, said the head of the Society of Political Prisoners and Repressed.
Later, Dremliuha says, a bust or memorial ensemble in Chornovil's memory may be erected at this site. Activists are also initiating the installation of a memorial plaque to Chornovil on the building of the current regional philharmonic. It used to be the House of Culture of Railway Workers, where Rukhivists gathered and where Viacheslav Chornovil personally visited.
The activists decided not to go to the police.
