At the last meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, Hungary did not receive support for its position. Hungary's symmetry - its location between Moscow and Brussels - irritates all other representatives of the EU Council. This was stated by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski in an interview with Visegrad Insight, UNN reports .
They look isolated when they are the ones asking for solidarity from Europe on the issue of oil supplies. They don't get that solidarity because it's hard to win friends if someone is being selfish
According to the Polish foreign minister, the EU Council also raised the question of where one of the Foreign Affairs Council meetings during the Hungarian presidency should be held: in Budapest or Brussels. As a compromise, Sikorski suggested that it be held in Ukraine, in Lviv or even Mukachevo. This was initially reportedly met with "enthusiasm" by the Hungarian foreign minister.
The Polish Foreign Minister reminded that two years ago, a meeting of the EU Council had already been held in Kyiv.
"However, during our meeting, the Hungarian minister apparently received other instructions from the capital and was eventually forced to veto the proposal. He was left alone. So I don't see how this Hungarian symmetry - the location between Moscow and Brussels - increases Hungary's influence. On the contrary, it irritates everyone else," Sikorski said.
