The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran stated that the US struck an Iranian nuclear power plant currently under construction early this morning, reports UNN citing CNN.

The strikes were carried out on the construction site of the Darkhovin power plant, located in southern Iran near the Iraqi border, the organization reported.
In December 2022, the organization stated that earthworks had begun at the site. According to the World Nuclear Association, which represents the global nuclear industry, as of March, construction had not officially started yet.
CNN has reached out to the US Central Command for comment.

The publication notes that plans for building a nuclear power plant in Darkhovin date back to before the 1979 Iranian Revolution, and construction there began in the 1970s after French investment in the project.
But after the revolution, France withdrew its investment, halting construction, according to the World Nuclear Association. Chinese investments, agreed upon in the 1990s, were also withdrawn before construction could resume, the association added.
