The Council of the International Skating Union (ISU) has decided to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in international competitions under a neutral status. This is stated in the ISU statement, reports UNN.
Details
"Athletes representing russia and belarus will be allowed to participate in competitions without attributes of state recognition, namely: national flags, national uniforms, and national anthems.
Participation will be possible provided there is no evidence of violation of the athletes' neutral status, which emphasizes the priority of fair sport on ice," the statement reads.
The union stated that they will constantly review the conditions for holding competitions under the auspices of the ISU and will ease restrictions only in cases where they are convinced that this will not cause any problems with the safety or integrity of the competition.
The ISU also reserves the right to reinstate or strengthen restrictive measures if such situations arise.
"The ISU Council continues to call for an end to all ongoing conflicts in the world and condemns armed conflicts.
The ISU has provided financial support to Ukrainian figure skaters through various initiatives, including the ISU Development Program, contributions to the Ukrainian Figure Skating Federation, and a support program for displaced skaters.
Currently, the ISU Council is considering the next stage of this support," the union added.
