Reference

Hussain was the most famous representative of the tabla, a pair of hand drums that are the main percussion instrument in Indian classical music.

The son of legendary tabla player Ustad Alla Rakha, Hussain was born in 1951 in Mumbai and was taught the instrument by his father at the age of 7. A prodigy, he began performing with Indian classical music legends as a teenager.

The Indian drummer also worked with the Beatles' vocalist George Harrison, famous jazz performers and cellist Yo-Yo Ma. The key to Hussein's success was his skill in playing Indian drums such as the tabla.
