In the Venezuelan capital Caracas, thousands of workers and pensioners protested demanding higher wages and pensions, but they were stopped by police cordons. The marchers could not reach the presidential palace, Reuters reports, writes UNN.

Details

Trade unions, civil servants, and pensioners participated in the protests. They tried to reach the Miraflores Palace, but the police blocked the city center. Some demonstrators managed to break through the first barriers, but reinforced blockades stopped them about 2 kilometers from the government quarter.

Why people protested

The protesters indicate that their income level does not allow them to cover basic needs. According to data, civil servants receive about $160 per month, while in the private sector, the average income is approximately $237.
