Russia's second-largest oil refinery — the Kirishi refinery in the Leningrad region — halted processing on Tuesday, May 5, following a Ukrainian drone attack. This was reported by Reuters, citing sources, according to UNN.

It is noted that the strike caused a fire, and three out of four primary crude distillation units were damaged, as well as several secondary processing units.
These units are a key element of any refinery, and without them, the enterprise cannot operate.
The Kirishi refinery, located approximately 800 km from the Ukrainian border, has already been repeatedly targeted by Ukrainian drone attacks this year.
The capacity of the Kirishi refinery is about 20 million tons, or approximately 400,000 barrels per day.
Surgutneftegas, the company that controls the plant, did not provide an immediate comment.
In recent years, it has processed about 18 million tons annually, accounting for about 7% of Russia's total oil refining volume.

On the night of May 5, the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out strikes on a number of Russia's military-economic infrastructure facilities, including the "VNIIR-Progress" plant in Cheboksary and the Kirishi oil refinery in the Leningrad region.
