Details

The fire started on the evening of April 18, around 7:20 PM, near the village of Karunki. By Sunday noon, the fire had completely swept through the island's territory.

According to the Lapland rescue service, the island is uninhabited, so it was decided not to actively extinguish the fire.

Firefighters controlled the situation to prevent the fire from spreading to other islands or the mainland.

The island has grassy terrain and no buildings. On Saturday, the fire caused significant smoke in the area.

As of Sunday morning, the intensity of the smoke had decreased. A forest fire warning is in effect in the region.
